The Foresta Foundation and SPAR Gran Canaria have spearheaded the planting of over 6,200 trees on the island, with an estimated annual CO₂ capture capacity of 37 tons.

The Foresta Foundation held its second board meeting of the year at the facilities of SPAR Gran Canaria, coinciding with the supermarket chain's 40th anniversary. SPAR Gran Canaria is a patron of the organization. The meeting reviewed progress in environmental restoration and forest conservation achieved during the first half of 2026.
The session was attended by representatives from the patron entities, including Ángel Medina for SPAR Gran Canaria, Claudio Alonso for XDA, Antonio Bonny for Grupo Bonny, José Acosta for Grupo Acosta Matos, and Pedro Luis Martínez and Ángel Medina for Grupo Martínez Cano Canarias. Also present were the Foundation's director, manager, and advisor: Alicia Rodríguez, Sergio Armas, and Manuel del Toro.
Ángel Medina, president of SPAR Gran Canaria, expressed pride in hosting the meeting, highlighting the collaboration with the Foresta Foundation since 2007 and their commitment to protecting the island's natural heritage.
Alicia Rodríguez, director of the Foresta Foundation, emphasized the importance of continued support from the patrons and the satisfaction of seeing this partnership grow, generating a real impact on the island's ecosystems. The planting of a Canary Island cedar symbolized this long-term commitment.
At the conclusion, attendees participated in the symbolic planting of a Canary Island cedar in the gardens of SPAR Gran Canaria. This gesture was also attended by José López (vice president), Dunia Pérez (general director), and Yubi Cisneros (Director of Corporate Social Responsibility and Communication for SPAR Gran Canaria), reinforcing the organization's commitment to sustainability.
As a result of this joint agreement, nearly 6,200 trees have been planted in various areas of Gran Canaria, which will capture an estimated 37 tons of CO₂ annually. Furthermore, efforts have contributed to the recovery of forest ecosystems and improved the water recharge capacity of the island's aquifers.
