The projects ‘Forjando Futuro’ (Forging Future) and ‘Sobre Ruedas’ (On Wheels), funded by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands Employment Service with funds from the Fdcan, aim to meet the demand for qualified professionals in sectors with high needs.
The ‘Forjando Futuro’ program trains 15 participants as welders, offering nearly seven months of training (932 hours) including Professional Certificates in oxy-gas and MIG/MAG welding, along with complementary content.
Meanwhile, ‘Sobre Ruedas’ trains another 15 individuals in the maintenance of two and three-wheeled vehicles, with a 951-hour curriculum that includes internships in sector companies.
The initiative, driven by the Employment and Local Development department of the Cabildo, involves an investment of 480,000 euros and is developed in collaboration with the Provincial Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises of Metal and New Technologies of Las Palmas (Femepa).
Councilor Juan Díaz highlighted that these programs address the dual need of facilitating employment access for untrained individuals and assisting workshops in finding specialized workers due to a lack of generational replacement in trades like welding and mechanics.
An employment insertion rate of at least 25% of participants is expected, thanks to the adaptation of content to current labor market needs and collaboration with sector companies.
