Gran Canaria has intensified its promotion in the United States and Canada, consolidating its presence in the North American market to attract higher-spending tourists and diversify its offerings.

Starting in December, the island will feature a direct air connection to Toronto and Montreal, marking the first regular transoceanic operation to North America since the 1970s. This initiative aims to attract tourists with high purchasing power, a milestone for the market diversification strategy and enhancing the destination's resilience.
Throughout May, Gran Canaria Tourism actively participated in key events such as the Spain Tourism Summit in Montreal, holding 44 professional meetings with agents and tour operators specializing in premium segments. The presentation of new connections operated by Air Transat generated significant interest among Canadian professionals.
Concurrently, the island strengthened its presence in the United States by participating in the EDGE Conference 2026 in San Diego, California. At this event, a major one for the North American travel agency channel, Gran Canaria served as a Preferred Partner Destination for Travel Leaders Network, boosting its visibility for long-haul travel and experiential tourism.
These promotional efforts are complemented by familiarization trips, such as the one undertaken by Michael Ryan Bertoia, product manager for Kensington Tours, who experienced firsthand the offerings of five-star accommodations, local gastronomy, and cultural and wellness experiences tailored for premium travelers.
Gran Canaria Tourism's strategy in North America focuses on a priority market due to its growth potential and traveler profile. Improved air connectivity and sustained work with specialized tourism stakeholders usher in a new era for the island in the continent, reinforcing its international positioning as a year-round European destination.
