The president of the Popular Party of Gran Canaria, Carlos Sánchez, confirmed this Friday the adhesion of Marco Aurelio Pérez and his party, Agrupación de Vecinos (AV), to the popular ranks. Sánchez described this move as strategic for consolidating a governing alternative on the island for upcoming electoral processes.
During a radio interview, Sánchez advocated for the need to "advance towards the unity of the Gran Canarian center-right," highlighting that the integration of AV represents a significant step in this objective. The official ceremony for this adhesion will take place this Saturday in the south of Gran Canaria.
“"We have shared projects and candidacies for years, but the time has come to definitively join forces to offer a solid alternative to the citizens."
The arrival of Marco Aurelio Pérez, described as a "historic political leader from the south of the island and a reference figure in San Bartolomé de Tirajana," joins other recent initiatives by the PP to expand its political base in Gran Canaria, such as the SOMOS Project in Ingenio and contacts with other parties, including the one led by the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno.
The PP believes that "in the Cabildo, unity is what matters," arguing that Gran Canaria needs to overcome the paralysis in strategic projects, address the "grave problem" of road mobility, and confront the increase in crime.
Sánchez reiterated that the goal is to build a majority that drives change in the island's institutions, although he does not rule out agreements with other political forces. "We are not closed to talking with anyone. The important thing will always be to guarantee stability and offer the best solutions for the citizens," he stated.
Regarding potential pacts with Vox, the popular leader indicated that he would have no objection to reaching agreements if circumstances require it, noting that "they represent an important part of society and I have no problem making pacts with them."
The popular leader concluded by expressing his conviction that this strategy of integration and unity will allow the PP to become the most voted force on the island, with the aim of "leading the political change in Gran Canaria and governing the main institutions."
