A peaceful protest is scheduled for June 7th at the port of La Aldea de San Nicolás to oppose the planned construction of a large marine fish farm along its coastline.

The environmental organization Greenpeace and the citizen platform Por un litoral limpio (For a Clean Coastline) are organizing the demonstration, set to take place at 10:00 AM. The initiative aims to oppose the establishment of a marine farm promoted by the company Gran Canaria Bass Company SL.
The company has submitted an application to install 24 floating fish cages, each measuring 30 meters in diameter and 20 meters in depth, located between Góngora point and La Aldea point. The goal is to produce up to 5,400 tons of sea bass annually starting from the sixth year of operation. Sources from the Government of the Canary Islands have confirmed the application's existence but stated it is in an initial processing phase.
Activists such as Vanessa Santana from Greenpeace have launched an awareness campaign among local residents. According to Santana, initial surveys among the villagers reveal a general lack of knowledge about the project, followed by rejection once the details become known.
Greenpeace has denounced the "serious impacts" associated with these facilities, including overfishing (to feed farmed species), chemical pollution, the introduction of non-native species, destruction of coastal areas and biodiversity, and pressure on traditional fishing practices. The environmentalists demand that these large-scale farms be removed from the island's coast.
