Gran Canaria international master Sabrina Vega has been proclaimed the European Chess runner-up in Batumi, reissuing the continental silver from 2016.

Canarian chess player Sabrina Vega has once again demonstrated her level on the European stage by winning the silver medal at the European Chess Championship, held in the Georgian city of Batumi. This achievement comes ten years after her previous continental runner-up position in 2016.
Vega remained a strong contender for the title throughout the competition, even leading the standings solo with three rounds remaining. She concluded the tournament with a score of 8.5 points, thus securing her place on the podium and reaffirming her position in the elite of women's chess.
The gold medal went to the young Ukrainian player Anastasiia Hnatyshyn, only 15 years old, who finished with 9 points. The third position was taken by Olga Badelka, a Belarusian player representing Austria, who tied on points with Vega but was relegated to bronze due to tie-breaking systems.
The championship brought together the continent's top female players, keeping the excitement high until the final rounds. The Spanish participation was completed by Ana Matnadze, who secured thirteenth place overall after a solid performance.
