Mobility in Gran Canaria becomes complicated this Thursday, June 11, due to the visit of Pope Leo XIV, causing traffic closures in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and on the GC-1.

This Thursday, June 11, presents significant mobility challenges in Gran Canaria due to the visit of Pope Leo XIV. Traffic closures have been implemented in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, particularly affecting the Vegueta, Triana, and Siete Palmas areas, where a large gathering of attendees is anticipated.
The pontiff's schedule includes visits to the port of Arguineguín in the morning and the Cathedral of Santa Ana in the capital. In the afternoon, starting at 6:30 PM, he will preside over a large mass at the Gran Canaria Stadium, expecting over 40,000 attendees.
The GC-1, Maritime Highway, has experienced temporary closures towards the port. Authorities strongly recommend using public transport and following security instructions to facilitate the event's development and minimize congestion.
In Arguineguín, the Pope was welcomed after arriving from the Gando Air Base. The itinerary included the presentation of the Golden Key of the City by the mayor, Carolina Darias, at Plaza Stagno, before heading to Vegueta.
The security operation involves over 500 Civil Guards. Despite expectations, traffic on the GC-1 has remained fluid so far, without the lane closures initially planned in the security device.
