The University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have strengthened their strategic alliance with Morocco's Ibnou Zohr University, exploring new opportunities for academic cooperation.

A delegation from the public universities of the Canary Islands, led by the Rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco García Rodríguez, and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, María del Mar Tavío, met with representatives from Ibnou Zohr University, including its President, Nabil Hmina, and Vice-Presidents. The visit focused on the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in El Aaiún.
The primary objective of these meetings was to analyze and promote new cooperation opportunities in the fields of medicine and health sciences. The aim is to foster the development of joint research projects, facilitate the mobility of students and professor-researchers, as well as knowledge exchange and the implementation of high-value academic initiatives.
As a result of these discussions, a specific agreement was signed to promote collaborative projects in health and innovation. Subsequently, the Canary Islands delegation visited the Higher School of Technology in El Aaiún, where future collaborations in areas such as new technologies and applied training will be explored.
Ibnou Zohr University thus reaffirms its strategic role in southern Morocco as a platform for international openness and cooperation with the Canary Islands and Spanish university space, strengthening academic dynamics in the Atlantic region.
