The Ayuntamiento de la Villa de San Juan de la Rambla has launched the festivities in honor of co-patron San José with the official reception of the Infantil and Adulta Romera candidates. This year, the celebration takes on a special significance as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Romera Election Pageant.
Ten candidates will compete for the titles of Infantil and Adulta Romera in a gala scheduled for Friday, September 11th, at 9:00 PM, coinciding with the start of the festivities. In the children's category, the participants are Helena Rodríguez (Centro Médico y Dental San José), Emma Luis (Comidas Fermín Mesa y Café y Canela), Adhara Siverio (Rosi Café y Sabor y Novedades Fioneli), Sofía Díaz (Desarrollos Urbanos y San José Artesano), and Valentina González (Autobar Ikeire).
The adult candidates are María Afonso (Mariela Estudios y Bar Central Icod el Alto), Sara Rodríguez (Cafetería La Era y Sonia Reyes Estilista), Yessenia Suárez (Transportes Felipe Álvarez y Sandra’s English Class), Yexsenia Rodríguez (Obras y Servicios Islaforte, S.L.), and Alexandra Dóniz (Centro Médico y Dental San José).
To commemorate the 30th anniversary, a special tribute gala will be held on Sunday, September 13th, bringing together representatives from different generations of romeras. This event will recognize the role these women have played in preserving the traditions associated with the San José festivities.
Mayor Juan Ramos highlighted the pride in reaching thirty years of the pageant, emphasizing the contributions of families, candidates, sponsors, and organizers in keeping the tradition alive. María García, Councilor for Fairs, Festivals, and Romerías, praised the efforts of the Festival Commission over the past year in organizing celebrations befitting the municipality's history.
The festivities, extending until Saturday, September 19th, feature a comprehensive program including musical and sporting events, activities for children and adults, street parties, craft fairs, concerts, and traditional religious ceremonies. The program aims to offer something for all ages, maintaining the participatory and family-friendly character of the celebrations.
The official presentation of the poster for the XXXI Romería, designed by the City Council's Communication Department, paid tribute to the women carriers, responsible for carrying the image of San José from the Town Hall to the temple.
