The funding will be used for the acquisition of a new waste collection and compaction truck and for the improvement of public lighting in rural areas of the municipality through the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption luminaires.
This agreement is part of the Insular Plan for Cooperation in Municipal Works and Services (PICOS) for the 2026-2027 biennium, with the Island Council allocating 2.5 million euros for the six city councils on the island.
“"This tool is fundamental to ensure that all municipalities on the island, regardless of their size or economic resources, have greater opportunities to improve their infrastructure and provide quality public services."
The president of the Island Council, Casimiro Curbelo, highlighted the importance of these economic cooperation lines for increasing the investment capacity of city councils, especially the smaller ones, which often have limited budgets to meet basic service obligations.
Curbelo emphasized that cooperation between administrations must result in concrete actions that benefit citizens, translating into better services and more efficient infrastructure, thus responding to the priorities directly communicated by the city councils.
