National PSOE deputy for Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Esther Rodríguez, has highlighted the imminent allocation of 19 million euros for the La Gomera airport. This funding, approved by the Council of Ministers, aims to transform the facility into a competitive, high-quality infrastructure, reaffirming the State Government's commitment to the islands.
This investment is part of a broader plan of 1.807 million euros dedicated to improving all Canarian airports over the next five years, within the framework of the Airport Regulation Document (DORA). The parliamentarian stressed that this figure represents a substantial increase compared to the 5 million euros invested in the previous five-year period (2022-2026), demonstrating a clear commitment to enhancing airport infrastructure and the archipelago's connectivity.
The planned works for the La Gomera airport include the renovation of air conditioning systems, roof insulation, and office expansion in the terminal area. Interventions will also be carried out on the flight field and apron, including the adaptation of the general aviation apron.
In terms of security, the perimeter fencing and security equipment will be reinforced, and new vehicles for the Fire Extinction Service (SEI) will be incorporated, in addition to renewing the runway surface.
A notable project will be the installation of a photovoltaic solar park, consisting of two plants of 0.59 hectares each and a nominal power of 0.499 MWn. This initiative will contribute to the infrastructure's energy sustainability.
Rodríguez emphasized the importance of these improvements for strengthening La Gomera's connectivity, optimizing passenger services, and moving towards safer, more modern, and sustainable infrastructure. She also noted that these investments will boost the territory's economic and social development.
