Controlled burns will also not be authorized until November 1st. The island's president, Casimiro Curbelo, emphasized the need to maintain prudence and citizen responsibility, recalling that the reduction to medium danger does not eliminate the risk and that it is essential to respect preventive measures and the indications of emergency services.
Curbelo recalled the investment of 2.5 million euros and the deployment of over 200 personnel for the 2026 forest fire prevention and extinction campaign, highlighting the human and material effort to protect the island and the importance of citizen collaboration.
For his part, the Emergency Counselor, Héctor Cabrera, insisted that controlled burns remain unauthorized until November 1st and urged citizens to pay attention to official communications regarding the evolution of measures.
Between January 1st and October 16th, 1,001 incidents were recorded, including 12 forest fires, 55 related to preventive devices, and 16 involving drills and practice sessions.
Cabrera highlighted the coordination, training, and vigilance of the emergency teams, as well as citizen involvement in avoiding risky behaviors and reporting any signs of fire.
