The Cabildo de La Gomera has concluded the first phase of its sociocultural program ‘La Gomera Viaja’, which saw the participation of over 330 individuals.
The initiative, designed to foster social cohesion, community involvement, and active aging among La Gomera's residents, organized trips to national destinations including Pamplona, Valencia, and Seville. These excursions combined cultural activities, heritage visits, and social gatherings.
The island corporation's president, Casimiro Curbelo, described the response to this first round as "excellently received," emphasizing the importance of "continuing to promote public policies aimed at improving the quality of life, autonomy, and social participation of the island's elderly population."
“
"'La Gomera Viaja' is not just a travel program, but a tool to generate well-being, strengthen social bonds, and offer new leisure and knowledge opportunities to those who have decisively contributed to La Gomera's development."
The Cabildo has ensured the availability of resources to continue the program and meet existing demand, aiming for registered participants to enjoy the initiative before the year's end.
Following this initial stage, the program will take a break during the summer months. The next series of departures will resume from the last week of September.
For her part, the Minister of Social Policies, Rosa Elena García, highlighted the "smooth operation" of the trips and the "coordination deployed to ensure the proper development of each outing," stating that "each group received support, logistical planning, and a program designed for participants to have a safe, accessible, and enriching experience."
“
"This program opens new opportunities to explore different territories and experiences, and to strengthen social bonds, especially among the elderly."
García reaffirmed the Cabildo's commitment to actions focused on the physical and social well-being of the citizens.
