The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esther Monzón, outlined at the regional Parliament's plenary session the measures of the Canary Health Service (SCS) to improve public health infrastructure and technical equipment on the island of La Gomera.
It was explained that the interior reform technical project for the module of the Multipurpose Day Hospital at the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Hospital has already received the technical project suitability report. The tender for the work, through a simplified open procedure with an investment of 1.2 million euros, received no bids, leading to explorations for negotiation with interested construction companies. This 335-square-meter facility is a priority for specialized outpatient care.
In Primary Care, progress is being made on the project for the La Lomada Local Clinic, currently under supervision for tendering, with an estimated investment of over two million euros and construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Regarding the expansion of the Valle Gran Rey Health Center, updated information on its processing status has been requested to clarify discrepancies between property registry, cadastre, and inventory data, which must be resolved to ensure legal certainty before proceeding with geotechnical and topographical studies.
In terms of equipment, the SCS plans to acquire an advanced digital fluoroscopy system and an ultrasound machine for Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Assisted Human Reproduction. Additionally, the new tender for land-based health transport includes an advanced life support ambulance and a non-urgent transport ambulance, both based in Valle Gran Rey to cover the island's west side.
