Seven institutes from Lanzarote will compete in an educational contest on November 24th to test their knowledge of the island's biodiversity and Famara's habitat restoration efforts.

Seven institutes from Lanzarote, one from each municipality on the island, will participate in an educational competition designed to test the knowledge of 1st-year ESO students regarding the island's biodiversity, its main conservation challenges, and the restoration actions being carried out for its natural habitats.
The initiative, promoted by the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy, aims to introduce students to the environmental values of the Famara natural enclave and to publicize the work being done to improve soil, restore vegetation cover, and promote water capture from mists.
The students' training process has recently begun. Since late October, students have been engaged in an educational program combining talks, videos, and didactic materials to delve into issues related to biodiversity, climate change, and habitat restoration. A key resource is the sticker album "Planting Future in Famara," detailing restoration efforts by the Government of the Canary Islands since 2020, co-financed by the European Union under the Canarias FEDER 2021-2027 Program.
The seven participating centers are IES Las Maretas (Arrecife), IES Haría, IES San Bartolomé, IES Teguise, IES Tías, IES Tinajo, and IES Yaiza. Each school will be represented by a team of two 1st-year ESO students.
The contest will take place on November 24th at the studios of Biosfera Televisión. The competition will be recorded and broadcast later, highlighting the educational work developed in schools and the importance of conserving one of Lanzarote's most unique natural spaces.
As recognition for their effort and learning, the winning class will enjoy a visit to the laurel forests of the Biosphere Reserve of Macizo de Anaga, in Tenerife. This experience will allow students to discover a rich ecosystem not present in Lanzarote.
