The show 'Recuerdos del jable', with an original idea by Óscar Pérez Cabrera and script by José María de Paiz, directed by Toñín Corujo, premiered last Thursday, October 1st, at the Teatro Víctor Fernández Gopar ‘El Salinero’. The work is a tribute to the figure of Antonio Corujo, performed by his descendants and protégés.
The audience filled the theater and applauded with emotion, confirming the generated anticipation. The quality of the voices and musicians was anticipated, as was the performance of the coplas by Antonio Corujo, an artist dedicated to Canarian folklore. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as they remembered a man described as good, always happy, and who never got angry.
The union of talent from this Lanzarotean lineage of folklorists, musicians, and parranderos resulted in an outstanding performance. The representation paid a heartfelt tribute to one of its cornerstones, Antonio Corujo, whose presence was felt in every note, chord, and strum, from the violin to the timple.
The voices of his nephews, the hands of ‘El Coloráo’ on the timple, the poetry of Fabiola Socas, and the tender stories told by Antonio Corujo's children made for a memorable night. Numerous artists filled the stage, all grateful for their participation.
The staging combined tradition with contemporary elements, demonstrating that there is a solid base of young people growing up surrounded by Antonio Corujo's legacy. The show underscored the honor to those who preceded us and hope for the future of Canarian folklore.
