The infrastructure, considered strategic for security and protection along the Atlantic route, has been stalled since 2024 following an act of vandalism. The project, which has held national interest status since 2020, remains halted despite construction beginning in 2023.
The representative body for the seven island councils has requested a meeting with the Interior minister to address the matter. The request emphasizes the need to provide the island with the necessary technical resources for border control and the fight against drug trafficking.
In addition to this request, Fecai has made progress on other regional issues, such as the negotiation of the Canary Islands Development Fund (Fdcan) and the creation of a technical commission to adapt the organic regulations of the island councils to the new legal framework.
