The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has formalized the protocol for this significant gathering on the island, signing the document at London's World Travel Market (WTM). The signing ceremony was attended by the President of the ETC and Director General of Turespaña, Miguel Sanz; the CEO of the European organization, Eduardo Santander; and the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández.
The insular president, Oswaldo Betancort, described the selection as "a recognition of Lanzarote's trajectory and our capacity to contribute to the debate on the future of European tourism." He emphasized the goal for the island to be "a protagonist in this transformation, advocating for a tourism model that combines competitiveness, sustainability, and well-being for our citizens."
For his part, Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, highlighted that hosting this event represents a "strategic opportunity to strengthen our relationships with key European tourism bodies" and to "position Lanzarote in the spaces where sector priorities are defined." He stressed that "international cooperation and tourism intelligence are fundamental tools" for addressing future challenges.
The holding of this meeting reinforces Lanzarote's international projection as a crucial hub for dialogue, cooperation, and knowledge exchange, in line with the strategic objectives of the new Plan Director de SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote 2026-2030.
