Arrecife City Council formally requested an investigation by Public Health after sewage spills were observed over the weekend. The Local Police have documented the incident with an official report.
The Beaches and Environment Department has urged the Island Water Consortium to conduct a thorough inspection of the pumping stations located near the Lanzarote Island Council building and Portugal Street.
Municipal authorities suspect the discharge may be linked to a recent failure in the sewage network in the Argana Alta neighborhood, which affects the pumping of wastewater to the Montaña Mina treatment plant.
As a precautionary measure, the council has activated safety protocols and the red flag remains raised along the coastline, advising against swimming until water quality is restored.
