The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility has greenlit the first modified project for the variant of the FV-1, FV-3, and FV-2 roads in Fuerteventura. This modification introduces an additional investment of 8,652,976.16 euros, including IGIC, representing a 9.4% increase over the initial budget.
With this update, the total contract cost reaches 100,751,879.70 euros (including IGIC), establishing this infrastructure as one of the most significant road investments recently undertaken on the island. The Directorate General of Road Infrastructure is responsible for the technical and administrative oversight of the project.
The modified project incorporates necessary technical adjustments to adapt the infrastructure's construction to the actual ground conditions encountered during execution. Modifications include interventions related to affected services, traffic diversions, maintenance of the FV-3, drainage systems, road surfaces, and walls.
A notable change affects the type of walls at the La Hondura junction. The reinforced earth walls from the original project will be replaced by cyclopean concrete walls with exposed stone, a technical solution deemed more suitable for the specific conditions of that area. The plan also includes measures to address services that were not foreseen in the initial design.
This project, spanning the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario and La Oliva, is vital for mobility in northern Fuerteventura. Its aim is to extend the FV-1 and enhance connections with the FV-3 and FV-2 roads, which are fundamental routes for travel around the island's capital and northern region.
The project encompasses the construction of the new highway and its interchanges, including the Antigua junction, which will link to the FV-20 and Puerto del Rosario, thereby integrating the new infrastructure with the existing road network and improving access to Fuerteventura's capital from various parts of the island.
In addition to the budget increase, the revised work schedule sets the completion date for the works as October 31, 2027. This extension is necessary to incorporate the additional actions outlined in the modification, ensuring the execution proceeds with the required technical and quality guarantees.
