The People's Party of Puerto del Rosario has pointed out that an increasing number of people are crossing Profesor Juan Tadeo Cabrera street, near the main entrance of the shopping center and the taxi stand, despite the absence of a pedestrian crossing or any signage. The party believes this practice requires analysis to prevent an accident.
The Popular Municipal Group will bring this situation to the City Council to request a study of potential measures that could enhance road safety at this location, which is increasingly used by pedestrians to cross the road.
“"Prevention is also about management. If we know there's a point generating a risky situation, there's no sense in waiting for an accident to happen to ask what could have been done. The responsible action is to study alternatives now and adopt the most technically suitable measures."
The PP warns that the danger does not solely affect those crossing. The unexpected appearance of pedestrians in an unauthorized area can force drivers to brake or make sudden maneuvers, increasing the risk for all road users.
Therefore, the popular party is not proposing a fixed solution. The request is for a technical analysis to determine the most appropriate action to regulate a reality that is already occurring regularly. They propose studying the feasibility of establishing a safe and properly signaled pedestrian access at this point, or adopting other measures to prevent its continued use as a regular crossing spot.
Ana Padilla, the party's spokesperson, emphasizes that the goal is not for politicians to decide where a pedestrian crossing should go, but to highlight an existing problem and ask technicians for the safest solution, thereby avoiding the normalization of people crossing daily in unprepared areas.
For the People's Party, the intervention must focus on prevention, considering the safety of both pedestrians and drivers circulating in the area. They stress that it is fundamentally a matter of road safety and prevention, beyond accessibility or convenience.
