The Puerto del Rosario City Council and the Canary Institute of Housing (ICAVI) have coordinated the main public housing actions in the municipality, ranging from the comprehensive rehabilitation of buildings to new residential developments and future projects on municipal land.

The comprehensive rehabilitation of the 90 and 91 dwellings, which will affect 181 units and improve surrounding public spaces, is one of the highlighted projects. This initiative has a total investment of 4,248,191.08 euros, jointly financed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and the Puerto del Rosario City Council.
Currently, the project is in the technical assistance and drafting phase, with work carried out by the studio of architect Raúl Falcón. During the visit to the urbanization, the technical office for resident support, established as part of the first phase of the rehabilitation, was also presented.
Participants in the meeting included the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera; the Director General of the Canary Institute of Housing, Pino de León; the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García; the Councilor for Urban Planning, Ana Hernández; the Councilor for Housing, Toñi Fernández Aragón; representatives of the awarded company, and members of the neighborhood association.
Furthermore, the status of other developments promoted by ICAVI in the municipality was discussed, such as the 47 homes on Don Quijote street, the 28 in Bernegal, the 24 planned for Rosa Vila, and residential projects on Cisneros street, which include two developments of 66 and 74 homes respectively.
The Puerto del Rosario City Council has offered the Government of the Canary Islands seven municipal plots, totaling over 20,000 square meters, since October 3, 2025, for the construction of public housing. The possibility of future conservation and rehabilitation actions in the so-called Pisos Rosas, owned by ICAVI, was also analyzed.
The visit concluded with a tour of the urbanization and the new technical office, which will serve as an information and support point for residents during the development of the rehabilitation project.

"Housing continues to be one of the main concerns of the citizens, and that is why we maintain permanent coordination with the Government of the Canary Islands to promote all possible actions in the municipality."

David de Vera · Mayor of Puerto del Rosario

"We are working on different lines of action that encompass both the construction of new public housing and the rehabilitation of the existing residential stock. The provision of municipal land responds precisely to the need to continue generating opportunities that allow for an increase in housing supply in Puerto del Rosario."

David de Vera · Mayor of Puerto del Rosario

"This action reflects the commitment of public administrations to improving the quality of life for the residents of Puerto del Rosario."

Pino de León · Director General of the Canary Institute of Housing

"The rehabilitation of these 181 homes will allow us to recover a consolidated residential environment and adapt it to current needs, improving accessibility, energy efficiency, and habitability conditions."

Pino de León · Director General of the Canary Institute of Housing

"From the Government of the Canary Islands, we are contributing to this project with an allocation of 424,819 euros, and we recall that the organization has a budget of 197.5 million euros for 2026 to promote the construction, acquisition, and rehabilitation of housing in collaboration with city councils and island councils."

Pino de León · Director General of the Canary Institute of Housing

"The global investment of more than 54 million euros made by the Cabildo for housing promotion is the result of joint work between administrations, which allows us to address one of the island's main social challenges."
