La Gomera is preparing to welcome music enthusiasts with two important events this weekend. The municipalities of Alajeró and Hermigua will serve as stages for musical performances across different genres. The Reggae Can Festival will take place this Friday, August 28th, in Playa de Santiago, while the third edition of the Hermigua Joven Festival will be held on Saturday, August 29th.
The insular Minister of Culture, Rosa Elena García, highlighted the collaboration of the Cabildo de La Gomera with these initiatives, as part of its commitment to bringing culture to all municipalities, supporting musical events, and offering a varied program. The insular Minister of Youth, Guillermo Medina, emphasized that these events mark a weekend of live music and cultural and youth revitalization on the island.
The Reggae Can Festival, in its 12th international edition, arrives at the Plaza de El Carmen in Playa de Santiago this Friday, August 28th, at 8:00 PM. With free admission, it will feature performances by Ruts & La Isla Music, Dactah Chando, The Queen of Bass, and Sistah Vibes. The lineup will blend reggae, neo soul, drum & bass, dancehall, and other rhythms inspired by Jamaican culture and current trends.
Ruts & La Isla Music will present a fusion of reggae and neo soul with Latin influences, having performed at international festivals. Dactah Chando, a leading figure in Canarian reggae with over two decades of experience, will present his new album 'Reset'. The electronic segment will be handled by The Queen of Bass (Andrea Álvarez), a drum & bass producer and DJ. Rounding out the lineup is Costa Rican DJ and selector Sistah Vibes, known for her roots, reggae, and dancehall sets.
The objective of the Reggae Can Festival is to promote and showcase reggae music created in the Canary Islands. The event, produced by Delaisla Producciones Musicales, is supported by the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de La Gomera, and the Alajeró City Council.
The musical offerings will continue on Saturday, August 29th, in the north of the island with the third edition of the Hermigua Joven Festival. Starting at 9:00 PM, the Plaza de la Encarnación in Hermigua will host Tutto Durán, Renzzo El Selector, and DJ Dailos, for a night focused on music and youth community, promoted by the insular council and the Hermigua City Council.
