The governing group of the Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG) in the Vallehermoso City Council has lamented the opposition's arguments for voting against the publication of the regulatory bases for study grants, which increase amounts and expand the number of beneficiary families.

ASG considers it contradictory that the opposition now proposes alternatives regarding conditions they had the opportunity to debate and on which they made no contributions by being absent from the plenary session where the modifications were approved.
The municipal government recalls that the modification will allow for an increase in grants from 100 to 200 euros for students on La Gomera and from 300 to 500 euros for those studying off-island. Additionally, access criteria will be expanded to reach more families in the municipality.
Regarding the simplification proposed by the opposition, ASG warns that establishing new differences between beneficiaries could require additional supporting documentation, complicating procedures instead of streamlining them. "Our priority is for the grants to reach more families, with higher amounts and within the planned deadlines, avoiding unnecessary procedures," they state.
The governing group reminds that there is currently a budget allocation of 20,000 euros, with plans to increase it from 2027 if necessary to meet applications and ensure the application of the new amounts.
The governing group regrets what they consider a repeated use of partial information and assessments far from the reality of municipal management, which, in their opinion, seek to generate controversy rather than contribute to improving proposals.
"The opposition has every right to disagree, but it is difficult to justify their absence when the requirements for grants are debated and then voting against their publication using those same criteria as an argument," they state.
Finally, ASG reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting the families and students of Vallehermoso with concrete measures, arguing that "in the face of political criticism and controversies, our response will continue to be management and work for our neighbors."
