The Cabildo of Lanzarote has restored electricity supply following a blackout early Saturday morning and has declared the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) in a pre-alert status to monitor potential impacts on essential services.

Following the energy blackout registered early Saturday morning, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa reports the restoration of electricity supply. The insular institution has declared the Island Emergency Plan of Lanzarote (PEIN) in a pre-alert situation due to impacts on basic supplies, aiming to maintain coordination and monitoring of potential effects on essential services.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that "from the first hour we have been monitoring the situation's evolution and potential impacts on essential services. Although the electricity supply has been recovered, we are keeping our services active and the PEIN in pre-alert to address any incidents that may occur."
The president of the Consortium of Security and Emergencies, Francisco J. Aparicio, assured that firefighters were made available for any potential incidents. "So far, only one incident has been detected in an elevator due to the power cut. However, we remain on alert for any consequences arising from this period without energy," he explained.
The energy blackout occurred around 05:44 AM and affected Lanzarote, with the exception of Playa Blanca, which maintained its electricity supply due to its connection with Fuerteventura. The incident affected approximately 73,600 customers.
According to technical information provided to the Cabildo, the incident originated at the Mácher station, related to a fault in the electrical system's mesh on the 132 kV line, leading to subsequent network disruptions.
The Government of the Canary Islands also declared a pre-alert for the PLATECA due to impacts on basic supplies, for the purpose of monitoring the incident's evolution and coordinating involved administrations and organizations.
Betancort thanked the work carried out during these hours by emergency services, security forces, technicians, and professionals, and urged the public to stay attentive to communications through official channels.
The Cabildo also informs that the electrical incident may cause disruptions in the water supply in various parts of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, due to the energy dependence of facilities linked to production and distribution. Citizens are advised to use water responsibly while operations are fully normalized and to consult updates published through official channels.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa reminds the public that for any incident or emergency situation arising from the energy blackout, they can contact the Consortium of Security and Emergencies of Lanzarote at the following numbers: 080 (emergencies), 928 816 308, 928 816 312, and 928 814 858.
