Artenara is preparing to host the twenty-third edition of 'A Night in Artenara', a musical event held since 2002. This year, the event, part of the Virgen de la Cuevita festivities (August 14th to 31st), will pay tribute to the composer and timple player José Antonio Ramos, a native of the municipality who passed away in 2008.
As a notable novelty, the 2026 edition will, for the first time in its history, feature female timple players on its lineup. Laura Martel will be one of the protagonists, sharing the stage with soloists Iván Quintana and Ana Gil, recognized for their contributions to the new Canarian folklore. They will be accompanied by a band featuring Yone Rodríguez (timple), Javier Ramírez (drums), Fofi Louson (bass), Alberto González (piano), and Gladys Pérez (flute), under the musical direction of Juan Sebastián Ramírez.
The festival, conceived over two decades ago by José Antonio Ramos himself, who participated in its first six editions, aims to maintain the spirit of connecting artists from popular music, jazz, and pop. Over the years, Artenara has hosted figures such as Mestisay, Kepa Junkera, Javier Ruibal, and Germán López, among others.
José Antonio Ramos's career began with the group Trío Timple and continued as a solo artist. His legacy endures every August in the Cumbre de Gran Canaria, where musicians and friends gather to celebrate his artistic and human impact.
During the presentation, the Minister of Culture of the Cabildo, Guacimara Medina, emphasized the event's importance in sustaining Ramos's legacy and highlighted the female presence in this edition, expressing hope that the fusion of Canarian popular music will be well-received by attendees.
