The mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, has issued a statement to clarify the situation of the Cueva de la Negra, expressing his respect for doña Pascuala Roger and her family during these "very difficult moments." The mayor explained the actions taken by the Town Hall, always within legal boundaries and its competencies.
Since August 18, the Town Hall has been in direct contact with the Roger family through their representative. On August 26, the mayor himself traveled to Cueva de la Negra to inform the head of Costas (Coastal Authority) about the precautionary measures adopted by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, which led to the machinery being withdrawn and the demolition halted that day.
Subsequently, the Town Hall has sent five letters to various administrations, at the request of the Roger family, and has provided municipal documentation concerning the Cueva de la Negra. The family specifically requested that the Town Hall extend the precautionary measures to also prevent eviction, a request that, after technical and legal consultations, was communicated as unfeasible for the institution.
To date, contact has been maintained with Costas to convey the existing precautionary measures and request that no demolition occur until the corresponding heritage assessment is completed. The mayor reiterates the commitment of the Pájara Town Hall, working with technical and legal support within its institutional possibilities.
