The Autonomous Commission for Environmental Evaluation (CAEA) gave its approval to the document in its session yesterday, fulfilling the procedure established by Law 21/2013 on environmental assessment. The session was chaired by the Vice-Minister of Territorial Planning and Demographic Challenge, Elena Zárate, and was attended by the Councilor for Urbanism of the Pájara City Council, Alexis Alonso Rodríguez.
The approval of the DAE is a decisive step that will allow the Pájara City Council to integrate environmental conditions into the main document of the plan before its final approval. The Minister of Territorial Policy, Manuel Miranda, highlighted that this progress is important for Pájara, as it "demonstrates that it is possible to reconcile territorial development with the highest environmental guarantees".
Miranda added that this agreement brings the municipality closer to a planning instrument "essential for ordering its growth with criteria of sustainability and legal certainty". This milestone is significant as it is one of the first general plans in the Canary Islands to be processed entirely under Law 21/2013, ensuring the incorporation of environmental aspects from the initial stages.
Strategic environmental assessment ensures that decisions on the territorial model consider their effects on the environment, promoting more sustainable development. Pájara's future General Plan thus reinforces the protection of natural values and urban sustainability.
Minister Miranda emphasized the role of the Autonomous Commission for Environmental Evaluation in integrating environmental criteria into the territorial and urban planning of the Canary Islands, contributing to more rigorous planning aligned with sustainable development principles.
