Following the specimen's fall, the Council acted immediately, cordoning off the area to prevent risks. Concurrently, a technician from the company responsible for pruning and treating the municipal palm grove was requested to assess the condition of the palm tree.
The City Council reminds the public that these maintenance tasks for the palm grove, including pruning and treatment, are carried out annually by a specialized company. The last campaign took place between October and November 2025, as part of the conservation program for palm trees in squares, parks, and streets within the municipality.
These periodic actions allow for the supervision and care of the specimens, adopting the necessary measures for their conservation and citizen safety, as indicated by the responsible technicians.
The operation occurs amidst a context of a pre-alert for coastal phenomena activated by the Directorate General of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands since the night of Tuesday, September 1st, due to north and northeast winds ranging from 30 to 61 km/h, particularly along the east coast of La Gomera.
However, the City Council has stated that, at this time, a direct causal link between the meteorological conditions and the palm tree's fall cannot be established. A technical assessment will determine the exact circumstances that influenced the incident.
