The municipality of San Sebastián de La Gomera is preparing to host the acclaimed Mexican writer and journalist Adolfo Córdova Ortiz in a special cultural event to mark Canary Islands Day. The initiative, titled “A corn child and a pack of wolves to read and imagine together,” aims to create a space for connection between the author and the public, especially young people, through the power of storytelling.
The town's mayor expressed her enthusiasm for Córdova Ortiz's presence, highlighting that his visit to the island is at the initiative of the Gomera writer Rubén Cubas and coincides with the presentation tour of his latest work, “Aullido.” The event will take place in the Canarian patio of the Asociación de Mayores Iballa (Iballa Seniors Association), a venue expected to be ideal for a culturally enriching proposal for all ages.
The Councilor for Culture, Aday Herrera, encouraged citizens to participate in this literary encounter, scheduled for Saturday, May 30th, starting at 10:30 AM at the Asociación de Mayores Iballa. Herrera emphasized the importance of such activities in enriching the municipality's cultural offerings and fostering a love for reading, with an author of Adolfo Córdova Ortiz's caliber.
Adolfo Córdova Ortiz is a prominent figure in journalism and children's and young adult literature. With an extensive published bibliography, translated into multiple languages and honored with prestigious awards such as the Juan de la Cabada National Award for Children's Short Stories, the Antonio García Cubas Award, and recognitions from the New York Public Library and The White Ravens, among others. Furthermore, his work as a reading mediator and educator at various universities solidifies his commitment to literary promotion.
Recently, Córdova Ortiz was awarded the BolognaRagazzi Award 2026 for his work “Río Viento,” further cementing his position as an international benchmark in publications for children.
