The Town Hall of San Sebastián de La Gomera hosted the presentation of the XII Cycling Tour of La Gomera, an emblematic cycling event part of the October Festivities honoring the Virgen de Guadalupe. The route will allow participants to cover 95 kilometers and overcome 2,750 meters of positive elevation gain, passing through the municipalities of San Sebastián, Vallehermoso, Agulo, and Hermigua.
The event, organized by the Gomera Cycling Club with the collaboration of the Town Hall of San Sebastián de La Gomera and the Island Council, will begin on Saturday, October 3rd at 8:00 AM from the Plaza de Las Américas.
Aday Herrera, Sports Councilor of the Town Hall of San Sebastián de La Gomera, highlighted the challenging nature of the cycling tour and its value for discovering the island, projecting its image as a quality tourist destination linked to sports and nature. He also noted the positive economic impact on local accommodations, restaurants, and businesses.
Guillermo Medina, Sports Councilor of the La Gomera Island Council, emphasized the event's consolidation and the work of the Gomera Cycling Club. He underscored the Council's support for initiatives that promote sports practice and back the island's clubs and sports entities.
Alberto Chávez, president of the Gomera Cycling Club, explained that the club originated from shared passion and has become a large family. After participating in numerous events, the idea arose to create their own cycling tour in La Gomera due to its landscapes, orography, and good road conditions. Twelve years later, the tour is emblematic and has required limiting registrations to preserve its essence.
The 95-kilometer route with 2,750 meters of positive elevation gain will pass through Vallehermoso, Agulo, and Hermigua, featuring a timed section on the climb of Las Carboneras. The finish line will be back in San Sebastián de La Gomera, with an expected return around 3:00 PM.
