The Government of the Canary Islands, the Ingenio City Council, and Redeia will sign an agreement next Monday to modify the route of a power line, preventing it from crossing the historic center of El Carrizal.

The agreement, which concludes years of neighborhood and institutional demands, will alter the path of the double-circuit power line between Arinaga and El Escobar. The infrastructure, which will remain underground, will be diverted towards the Alcantarilla ravine, moving away from the urban area of El Carrizal and thus protecting old buildings and historical heritage.
The signing ceremony will take place at the Plaza del Buen Suceso in Ingenio next Monday at 5:00 PM. Attendees will include the Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez; the Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy, Mariano Hernández Zapata; the mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín; the Director of Infrastructure in the Canary Islands for Red Eléctrica de España, Daniel Pérez Varela; and the delegate of Redeia in the Canary Islands, Ainara Irigoyen.
Representatives from the neighborhood platform Justicia Social Carrizal, which has led the claim for years, as well as landowners who altruistically ceded plots to make the alternative viable, will also be present. This latest proposal from the council, submitted in October 2024, aimed to prevent the cable from passing through the town center.
The project, with an updated cost of 3.3 million euros, aims to enhance the island's electrical system security and facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy. A significant portion of the Arinaga-Escobar line is already completed, with only this section pending.
