The Agüimes Town Hall on Monday, July 14, 2026, recognized the 15 male and female students from the municipality with the best academic records for the 2025-2026 academic year. The event took place in the Council Chamber, where they were presented with diplomas that value effort, consistency, and educational excellence.
This is the second cohort to receive these distinctions, aimed at rewarding academic performance across different educational stages. The objective is to encourage a culture of effort and serve as an incentive for other young people to continue investing in education as a tool for the future.
The ceremony featured a special performance by rapper Aniba Faycan, who entertained attendees with musical acts. Also present were the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, and the Councilor for Youth and Education, Omaira Quintana, who congratulated the distinguished students and highlighted the work of families and teachers.
Institutional representatives emphasized the essential role of the family environment and teaching staff in supporting students throughout their educational journey. Among the awardees, the mayor specifically recognized Rafael Estupiñán, a student from the IES Playa de Arinaga, for achieving the highest possible score on the Canary Islands University Entrance Exam (PAU): 14 out of 14.
In addition to the recognition, the awardees receive a total financial contribution of 10,000 euros. This is distributed as follows: 30% for 8 students in 6th grade of Primary Education; another 30% for 4 students in 4th year of ESO; and 40% for 3 students in 2nd year of Baccalaureate. The awards are granted among the different educational institutions in the municipality.
