The Agüimes City Council has presented its surveillance and rescue service for the summer, which will include 12 lifeguards, Local Police, and Civil Protection to ensure safety on the municipality's beaches.

From June 15 to September 15, a team of 12 lifeguards, along with personnel from the Local Police and Civil Protection, will be responsible for safety on the coastline of Agüimes. The aim is to make the municipality's coast a secure space for the thousands of visitors and residents who enjoy its beaches during the summer season.
During the service's presentation, institutional representatives including mayor Óscar Hernández, councilwoman Juani Martel, and councilman Efraín González, acknowledged the workers' efforts and encouraged them to continue safeguarding safety and well-being.
The operation will cover key areas such as Los Barquillos, Muelle, Soco Negro, Risco Verde, Muelle Viejo, Cabrón, and Vargas. Beyond monitoring swimmers, staff will provide information on sea conditions, flag meanings, beach usage rules, and offer assistance to individuals with reduced mobility to facilitate their access to the water.
To complement rescue efforts, the service is equipped with specialized gear, including a rescue boat, a jet ski, access chairs for people with reduced mobility, and amphibious crutches. Additionally, the Arinaga area has had the OneUP system since 2025, a rapid-use maritime rescue kit designed to assist individuals in difficulty outside the immediate coverage area.
The increasing public awareness regarding safety was also highlighted, contributing to a reduction in risky situations. The close collaboration of citizens in reporting potential incidents was also valued, thereby strengthening prevention and streamlining interventions when necessary.
