Mayor Vanesa Martín and the Councilor for Employment and Local Development, Almudena Hernández, greeted the student-workers and technical team on Friday morning, July 24th. This initiative, set to run for the next seven months, aims to provide participants with practical experience in various fields while strengthening their skills and expanding their job opportunities.
The plan includes specific interventions in parks and green areas, where gardening laborers will undertake tasks such as manual weeding, raking, organic fertilizing, irrigation system installation, minor pruning, and general maintenance. These activities will take place in several public spaces across the municipality, including parks like Cercado Grande, María Tomasa, La Ilusión, and avenues such as Valencia.
Concurrently, a painting team will be responsible for repainting municipal buildings, parks, and other public areas, as well as performing roof waterproofing. Another team focused on cleaning will work on conditioning plots, coastal cleanup, waste management, and removing bulky items from municipal facilities.
Training is structured with two weekly days dedicated to Key Skills in Mathematics and Spanish Language at level 2, facilitating access to future professional certificates. The remaining three days will focus on acquiring practical work experience.
The complete team comprises 36 individuals, including teaching staff, administrative personnel, area managers, and student-workers specializing in gardening, painting, and street cleaning. The project is funded with €310,545.33 from the Canary Employment Service and the State Public Employment Service, supplemented by a municipal contribution, bringing the total investment to €337,670.06.
During the welcome event, Mayor Vanesa Martín congratulated the participants, urging them to be responsible given the direct impact of their work on improving public spaces and citizens' quality of life. Councilor Almudena Hernández, for her part, highlighted the department's commitment to continuing initiatives that facilitate employment access and foster the professional and personal development of local residents.
