The Punto J (Youth Point) of the municipality has unveiled twenty proposals for July and August, primarily aimed at young people aged 16 to 24, although some activities extend this age range. The ‘Despláyate’ program aims to combine leisure, training, sports, culture, and creativity through courses, workshops, excursions, and outdoor activities.
Mayor Francisco García and the Councilor for Youth, Julio Ojeda, presented the program, highlighting its “complete and participatory” nature. García emphasized the importance of fostering artistic and creative talent, as well as healthy habits among young people during the summer. For his part, Ojeda noted that summer is an opportunity for learning and coexistence, pointing out the debut of Guanartemato, which will blend rap with Canarian polkas.
Among the scheduled activities are the ‘El chuletón joven’ (The Young Steak) camp in Las Tederas (June 30 to July 3), the conversational English course ‘Me encontré un guiri’ (I Met a Foreigner) (July 6-17), and the Urban Cultural School offering dance and theater for ages 12 to 30. A drawing and collage workshop (July 6-10) will also be available.
The training offerings include the vocal technique and singing workshop ‘En-canto de verano’ (Summer Enchantment) (July 13 to August 5) and the digital radio project ‘Jilorio Cultural’. On July 24, a free cultural event will feature a performance of Romeo and Juliet. The program also includes gastronomic workshops, beach yoga, and cultural visits.
“"Summer is an opportunity to make the most of free time through coexistence, learning, and participation."
Irina Castro, a worker at the Punto J, expressed gratitude for the youth's involvement in preparing several activities since December. The City Council encourages everyone to consult the full program on its official channels.
