In anticipation of the summer season, local authorities in Mogán have deployed special operations to promote responsible use of the coastline. Last week, Local Police officers issued more than one hundred penalty notices. Of these, 62 were specifically for the prohibition of smoking and discarding cigarette butts on the sand, practices that contravene the Municipal Ordinance on the use and enjoyment of the municipality's beaches.

The operation, which included both plainclothes and uniformed officers, extensively patrolled the coast to identify and penalize infractions. In addition to cigarette butts, other recurring violations detected included the consumption and possession of narcotics, with nearly twenty reports filed, as well as unauthorized street vending and the practice of illegal games.

The established financial penalties vary by infraction: up to 450 euros for smoking in prohibited areas, up to 1,800 euros for discarding cigarette butts, and up to 900 euros for illegal games and street vending, in addition to the potential seizure of merchandise. For drug consumption, the fine, regulated by the Municipal Ordinance on Citizen Coexistence and Security, ranges between 751 and 1,500 euros.

According to the acting Chief of the Local Police of Mogán, Marcos Domínguez, this operation will remain active throughout the summer season. These actions are part of the initiatives by the Department of Citizen Security, aimed at preserving the cleanliness, safety, and coexistence on the beaches, thereby reinforcing the commitment to the well-being of both residents and visitors.
