The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana celebrated the official hoisting of the Blue Flag at Las Burras beach. This award, granted by the Association of Environmental Education and Consumerism (ADEAC), certifies compliance with high international standards in quality, safety, accessibility, and environmental management.
With the addition of Las Burras, the entire tourist coast of Maspalomas Costa Canaria now flies this flag, consolidating the municipality as a benchmark for the Canarian coastline. The mayor, Marco Aurelio Pérez, and the Councilor for Tourism and Beaches, Yilenia Vega, highlighted the work carried out to enhance the quality of the coastline.
Yilenia Vega emphasized that the Blue Flag signifies passing a demanding evaluation that guarantees water quality, environmental management, safety, and services, serving as a guarantee for both residents and tourists.
The first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, noted that the blue flags reinforce the destination's image and convey confidence, highlighting that the investment and management by the Department of Beaches yield tangible results.
San Bartolomé de Tirajana maintains five blue-flagged beaches this year: Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, Meloneras, San Agustín, and the newly added Las Burras. Additionally, the Pasito Blanco Sports Marina also renews its distinction.
The municipality also holds two Blue Centers: the Educational Classroom of Tony Gallardo Park and the Interpretation Center of the Maspalomas Dunes Natural Reserve, recognized for their environmental education efforts.
The Blue Flag is an international distinction requiring adherence to rigorous criteria. Spain leads the program with 677 awarded beaches, including the 14 receiving the award for the first time this year.
