The municipal government of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has launched a project to provide the town center of Tunte with a suitable bus stop. Currently, the area has a stop on the GC-60, near Fernando Guanarteme street, which has a shelter in the summit-coast direction, but only a traffic sign on the opposite side.
The initiative, which has already been put out to tender, includes the creation of a lay-by for bus stops and parking between Santiago Square and the intersection with El Rosal street. The total investment amounts to 324,976 euros, which will be financed through the Cooperation Plan with the Cabildo. Additionally, the project includes the installation of a recycling point.
The works foresee the construction of a 15-meter long lay-by, complemented by two 12.50-meter transition wedges to facilitate vehicle stops. A 6.05 by 2-meter shelter will be installed, following the model established by the Single Transport Authority of Gran Canaria. This configuration is designed to allow buses to stop without interfering with general traffic, thereby improving road safety, traffic flow, and the efficiency of collective transport, as well as offering greater comfort to users during waiting times.
The project also includes the construction of a reinforced masonry retaining wall to bridge the height difference between the future lay-by and an adjacent plot of land used as an open-air parking area. The improvements will be completed with the construction of a sidewalk, the repaving of the affected road section, and the relocation of existing selective collection containers in the dirt parking lot next to the stop.
The estimated execution period for these works is four months. The local government estimates that, including the tender and contract signing periods, the new bus stop could be operational during the second half of 2026. Interested companies had until last Monday to submit their bids.
