The shipping company Baleària officially marked the start of its passenger and freight inter-island transport services in the Canary Islands this Thursday. The event took place at the port of Tenerife with the christening of the catamaran Mercedes Pinto, a vessel representing an investment of 128 million euros.
Starting June 5th, the Mercedes Pinto will operate a daily route connecting Morro Jable (Fuerteventura) with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This new connection aims to enhance connectivity between the main islands and Fuerteventura, offering a fast and efficient transport solution.
“"We arrive with humility, but we are Canarias to serve all the Islands."
The route will offer six daily departures between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, three between Morro Jable and Gran Canaria, and two between Morro Jable and Tenerife. The full journey will be non-stop and take just over four hours. New inter-island connections will be introduced from June 8th.
Furthermore, the company will strengthen the route between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Arrecife (Lanzarote) with the addition of the ferry Sicilia, which will increase capacity and ensure a daily service. The ferry Volcán de Tamadaba will return to the route between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura), also with a daily connection.
