The construction of the San Blas Wastewater Pumping Station (EBAR) in Candelaria is crucial for regional sanitation and for avoiding sanctions from the European Union.

The project for the San Blas Wastewater Pumping Station (EBAR) and its connection to the Güímar Valley regional treatment plant will be tendered for nearly 10.2 million euros. This infrastructure is essential for treating wastewater from nearly 60,000 inhabitants, thereby complying with European regulations and preventing the sanctions currently faced by Spain for non-compliance in this area.
The new discharge pipeline, measuring 2,454 meters in length and 400 millimeters in diameter, will transport wastewater from the urban centers of Candelaria, Punta Larga, and Igueste to the treatment plant located in Lomo del Caballo (Arafo), overcoming an elevation difference of approximately 86 meters.
The pumping station, situated next to the San Blas promenade, will feature advanced pre-treatment systems, 224 cubic meter regulation tanks, high-capacity pumping equipment, activated carbon deodorization, remote control, an emergency generator, and an electrical transformation center. Its design accommodates future demand growth.
The project includes technically complex works, such as crossing the TF-1 highway, adapting to affected services, interventions in public waterways, and integrating the infrastructure into a sensitive urban and heritage environment, close to the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria. Specific measures will be implemented to conserve representative Canary Island flora, including cardones and tabaibas.
This initiative will enhance urban wastewater treatment capacity, promote the reuse of treated water, and improve the environmental quality of the Villa Mariana's coastline. The administrative processing of this project has been complex, requiring coordination among numerous public administrations and bodies.

"The upcoming tender for this work allows us to take a decisive step towards materializing a long-awaited infrastructure that is fundamental for improving the region's sanitation."
