Tenerife South Airport has been affected by significant traffic chaos due to access barriers installed by Aena in the bus area, causing long waits and passenger discomfort under the sun.

Tenerife South Airport has become the scene of considerable traffic chaos. The access barriers recently installed by Aena in the aerodrome's bus area, as well as in Lanzarote, are causing severe congestion and prolonged waiting times for vehicle departures.
This situation affects both discretionary passenger transport companies and public buses, as denounced by the Federation of Transport Companies of the Canary Islands. Images released show dozens of vehicles stopped and honking their horns as they attempt to leave the facilities, a maneuver that previously took mere seconds before the barriers were installed.
José Ángel Hernández, the Federation's general secretary, stated that these images confirm the "worst fears" of the Canary business sector regarding Aena's car parks, and clarified that this is not an isolated incident but rather recurring episodes.
According to Hernández, the queues suffered by bus drivers to exit the airport car parks are due to system access failures or the requirement for buses to validate their entry and exit. The result is a "collapse" that impacts not only tourist buses but also public lines operated by Titsa, which greatly concerns the Federation due to its potential negative effects on island mobility.
The Federation of Transport Companies of the Canary Islands hopes that this situation will prompt Aena and the relevant authorities to reconsider and remove the barrier system from the Canary airports.
