The fire originated in the Valle Tabares area, between the Océano gas station and the local hermitage. The Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received the alert at 11:16 AM. The flames' closeness to the service station necessitated extreme precautionary measures.
Firefighters from the La Laguna Fire Station, part of the Tenerife Fire Consortium, along with local police officers from La Laguna, are currently working at the scene. A helicopter has also been deployed to tackle the blaze and cool the surrounding scrubland.
The outbreak occurs in a context of extreme meteorological risk in the Archipelago.
This incident happens during a high fire risk alert for Tenerife and Gran Canaria, triggered by high temperatures, strong gusts of wind, and low relative humidity. In Tenerife, temperatures are expected to reach up to 34 ºC in the southern and western highlands and midlands, with humidity levels below 30%.
The Canary Islands Government has extended the pre-alert to El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera, and urges the public to exercise extreme caution and adhere to current prohibitions to prevent fire propagation.
