The Italian training ship Amerigo Vespucci has docked at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where it was welcomed by Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and the Italian Vice-Consul, Gianluca Capelli Bigazzi.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, received the commander of the Italian Military Navy's training ship, Nicasio Falica, at the City Hall. The visit marks the vessel's stop at the capital's port after an absence of over 50 years.
This institutional meeting, also attended by the Italian Vice-Consul in the Canary Islands, Gianluca Capelli Bigazzi, aimed to strengthen ties between the city and the Italian Navy, reinforcing Santa Cruz's role as a strategic point for international calls in the Atlantic.
During the reception, the mayor highlighted the "historic connection of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the sea and international navies," emphasizing how these visits contribute to the city's economic, social, and cultural dynamism. He added that it is an "honor to welcome representatives of friendly nations to our capital, especially vessels that are part of a long European and Mediterranean naval tradition."
The municipal leader also underscored the "prestige and strategic importance of the Italian Military Navy" and expressed gratitude for the choice of Santa Cruz de Tenerife as a stop on this voyage, reaffirming the city's "deep Atlantic and port vocation" and its role as an "international hub open to the world and cultural exchange."
Following the protocol visit to the City Hall, Commander Nicasio Falica invited the mayor to tour the ship and attend an official lunch on board with crew representatives.
The Amerigo Vespucci has a crew of 264 people, which increases to 425 when trainees are on board. The vessel has a displacement of 4,150 tons, a length of 100 meters, and can reach a maximum speed of 12 knots.
The ship will remain in port until May 26 and will offer open house days for the public. Visiting hours are: May 22 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM; May 23 from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM; May 24 from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM; and May 25 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
