Pope Leo XIV has visited Spain, concluding his stay with a speech at the Congress of Deputies. The event, initially associated with a gathering at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium for the diocesan community, saw its main address take place in the parliamentary headquarters.
During his address, which lasted nearly half an hour, the Pontiff strongly defended life from conception to natural end, criticized the throwaway culture, and advocated for the protection of migrants. He also called for peace, respect for political adversaries without insults, and denounced tension and polarization.
The speech, described as "superior category" and markedly different from those typically heard from the tribune, included references to figures such as Unamuno, Cervantes, the School of Salamanca, and Saint Teresa of Ávila. Despite criticisms directed at various political proposals, the Pope's message was met with a unanimous and prolonged seven-minute applause from all present deputies.
The address by Pope Leo XIV, who has visited Spain over 30 times, was characterized as a "speech of truth" that, according to the report, demonstrates that "truth in Spain continues to be applauded."
