Emergency services from the Cecoes 1-1-2 activated an extensive rescue operation after receiving the alert at 12:45 PM. The report indicated a group of canyoners in distress in an area of difficult access. Personnel from the Consorcio de Bomberos de Tenerife and the rescue helicopter of the Grupo de Emergencias y Salvamento (GES) were immediately dispatched.
Upon arrival, rescuers descended via winch to the affected individual, who had sustained severe head trauma and was in cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts during the evacuation, medical personnel confirmed his death due to injuries incompatible with life.
The GES helicopter transported the deceased's body to the helipad in La Guancha, where it was placed under the custody of the Guardia Civil and relevant judicial authorities. Meanwhile, a ground team of firefighters and Benemérita agents assisted the rest of the group, consisting of three unharmed companions who were evacuated on foot.
Units from the Cuerpo General de la Policía Canaria and the Local Police of Buenavista del Norte also participated in the operation, securing the perimeter and landing zones. The Servicio de Urgencias Canario (SUC) kept a medicalized helicopter and two ambulances on standby at the town's golf course, although they were ultimately not needed.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of exercising extreme caution when practicing mountain sports in the Bujamé Ravine area.
