The Fundación CajaCanarias presents Early Music at the Foundation, a new musical series inviting exploration of the essence and sounds of a broad historical period, from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. Under the artistic direction of Carlos Mena, an internationally renowned countertenor, prominent national and international performers will guide the audience through the centuries and the European sensibilities of the era.
The cycle will comprise six concerts held between October 2nd and 9th, starting at 8:00 PM, at the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Tickets are now available for purchase on the official website.
This project emerges as a natural evolution of last year's successful Baroque at the Foundation program, reflecting the growing interest in historical repertoires. The new proposal expands its temporal, aesthetic, and conceptual scope, covering from the dawn of medieval creation to the 18th century, a period marked by profound political, spiritual, and cultural transformations that also influenced musical creation.
Early Music at the Foundation also aims to highlight the unique character of historical instruments and their sonorities. The initiative features the artistic direction of Carlos Mena, whose extensive experience and research-driven vocation lend a seal of excellence to the cycle, positioning it as a benchmark for enthusiasts of early music and historically informed performance in Canarias.
The program includes performances by ensembles such as Vespres d’Arnadí performing Vivaldi's The Four Seasons; the Gara Quartet exploring the origins of the string quartet with works by Richter, Boccherini, and Haydn; El Gran Teatro del Mundo with the program The Plaint focusing on lament and grief in Baroque France and England; harpsichordist Irene G. Roldán in a dialogue between Cabezón and Byrd; Camerata Iberia presenting Semper Dowland, semper dolens; and the duo of Hiro Kurosaki and Ignacio Prego with a program dedicated to Bach and Händel.
