The document, currently undergoing strategic environmental assessment, proposes the implementation of an alternative road towards Icod de los Vinos, which will pass through the El Volcán neighborhood with a single traffic lane. This measure aims to resolve traffic issues and visitor pressure, while also eliminating current parking spaces along the maritime avenue.
The urban plan also incorporates the reservation of land for a funicular project connecting the historic center with the neighborhood of San Juan del Reparo (La Culata). Although routes and stations are not defined, an intermodal transport exchange area is planned for Alcalde Perlaza street, with capacity for 34 vehicles.
Seven park-and-ride facilities are planned on the edges of the historic center, totaling 21,366 square meters for parking. These will be located in areas such as the former football field, near San Roque, behind the Town Hall, in the vicinity of the El Lamero urbanization, the San Pedro neighborhood, and the area reserved for the future funicular.
The new 'coexistence' road, with a single traffic direction towards Icod de los Vinos, will start on Alcalde Perlaza street and end on Fabián Viña Negrón street. Its purpose is to serve as an alternative in case of closures of the TF-42 road due to maritime storms, and its narrowest points will be widened to enhance its urban road character.
The chosen model, which reduces the degree of pedestrianization compared to other proposals, prioritizes people but allows access for service vehicles and residents at very low speeds. The pedestrian and 'coexistence' surface area will cover 60,313 square meters, 48% of the road surface.
Furthermore, public open spaces along the coast will be increased, creating a pedestrian route from the town's entrance to the San Pedro neighborhood. The old pier's parking area will be transformed into a free space, and the sidewalk of El Muelle beach will be widened.
The document also identifies vacant plots for redevelopment, including the area behind the Town Hall, the rear of El Muelle beach, and the San Pedro de Daute neighborhood. Behind the Town Hall, an elevator attached to the cliff is planned to improve accessibility between the lower part of the municipality and the El Volcán neighborhood.
Finally, two developable land plots are considered in El Lamero and San Roque. In El Lamero, a public space will be relocated, and one of the underground parking lots will be situated there. In San Roque, a park-and-ride facility is planned, and the feasibility of including a football field is being studied.
