The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in a building located in the Playa de las Américas area, in the municipality of Arona. Shortly after 5:30 PM, a resident alerted security and emergency services upon detecting smoke coming from the home of some friends in the Parque Santiago I complex, next to Rafael Puig Lluvina avenue.
Two officers from the Local Police were the first to arrive. As the property was unoccupied at the time, they gained access using a code from a key safe, provided by the alerting resident, who was of British origin, after contacting the owners.
Using a community extinguisher from the residential complex, the officers managed to extinguish the flames without major complications. Subsequently, firefighters from the Consorcio de Tenerife arrived at the scene to put out any remaining embers and ventilate the property.
According to fire experts, the blaze originated from negligence, apparently due to residents leaving wet, freshly washed towels on an electric stove with a burner left on. The rapid intervention prevented the fire from reaching a gas water heater and its supply pipe, located nearby.
