The alternative left in Los Realejos is consolidating for the 2027 elections, focusing its project on unity and closeness to the neighborhoods.

Progressive forces in Los Realejos, to the left of the PSOE, are strengthening their unity for the 2027 local elections. Their main strategy is based on recovery, involvement, and close listening to the neighborhoods and their residents, aiming to serve as a model for other Canarian municipalities.
As part of this initiative, an assembly has been called in the Tigaiga area for the upcoming June 20th. The goal is for attendees, the residents themselves, to be the protagonists, presenting their needs, proposals, and priorities to shape a future candidacy for the council.
This convergence is promoted by parties such as Izquierda Realejera, Izquierda Unida Canaria (IUC), and Podemos, and remains open to the adhesion of other parties or entities. The promoters consider the maximum concentration of progressive forces crucial, especially given the rise of the far-right and conservative right globally.
The involved parties believe that the only way to regain municipal representation is through a broad candidacy that mobilizes the progressive electorate. Historically, the PSOE governed with absolute majorities between 1979 and 2003, and later in pacts. However, since 2011, the PP has consolidated absolute majorities, leaving the PSOE with few councilors and the alternative left without representation in recent terms.
After months of meetings and a positive reception to the idea of unity, the formations have initiated a process of active listening in the various neighborhoods of Los Realejos, including Realejo Bajo and Alto, to connect with the social sentiment and citizen demands across all age groups.

What is happening in our neighborhoods? Why are the needs of residents increasingly overlooked? Our neighborhoods, facing a drift.

The first assembly will take place on Saturday, June 20th, at 12:00 PM at the headquarters of the Tigaiga Neighborhood Association. Under slogans such as 'What is happening in our neighborhoods?' and 'Our neighborhoods, facing a drift,' the aim is to establish a transformative left-wing alternative, based on the idea that 'neighborhoods are not abandoned, but defended'.
According to the organizers, challenges affecting the neighborhoods will be analyzed, such as the deterioration of public services, housing access difficulties, lack of neighborhood participation, mobility deficiencies, and the need for social and community cohesion. The goal is to create a space for reflection and dialogue to promote collective solutions.
The initiative aims to serve as an example of unity for other municipalities in northern Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands, overcoming the fragmentation that, they state, harmed the left in past regional elections and the Cabildo de Tenerife.
